Kentucky Men's Basketball: Preview 2013-2014 Guards Pt. 2

James Young courtesy of ESPN

Today we will continue our preview of the upcoming season by reviewing the rest of the guards on this Kentucky team. This group of players doesn't include anybody who will make a huge impact on this years team but players who will still be important both this year and in the future. And with that let's get started after the jump.#13 Sam Malone 5-11 185 JR Scituate, Mass. (Scituate): Sam Malone is a former walk-on who will be under scholarship this year at Kentucky. He is a player who has battled through multiple knee injuries while here at Kentucky and while he won't have an impact on the court he will be another player who has experience a championship and has suffered through downs such as injuries and a disappointing year last year and will be looked upon to provide leadership to the 8 young freshmen on this team.

#21 Tod Lanter 6-2 190 JR Lexington, Ky. (Gulf Coast State CC): Tod is the local kid who father was also a walk-on at the University of Kentucky in the early 80s. Only saw 9 minutes of playing time last year and don't expect him to see much more but another experienced player who can help push these young freshmen and make sure they don't get too comfortable.

#24 EJ Floreal 6-3 195 FR Lexington, Ky. (Dunbar): EJ is another local kid who played at the same high school as Tod Lanter. Officially listed as a walk-on since his father is the Track & Field coach at UK. EJ was offered scholarships to Tennessee, Western Kentucky, Cal Poly and Santa Clara but chose to stay in his hometown instead. Don't expect much from EJ this year as his basketball skills need to improve greatly but has the athleticism to one day become a starter for UK and a good one at that. Expect him to start to make an impact as soon as next year.

#25 Dominique Hawkins 6-0 193 FR Richmond, Ky. (Madison Central): Dominique is one of the 8 scholarship freshmen on the team and is ranked by Rivals as a 3 star recruit. Chose UK over Morehead State, Murray State and Western Kentucky. Good athlete who is also tough. Ability to push the ball and find teammates open at the rim. Competes on both ends of the floor. Needs to gain strength and continue to work on shooting skills but all around solid player who should contribute this year as the back up PG and possibly be the starter one day.

#32 Brian Long 5-9 155 JR Dumont, N.J. (River Dell): Another hard working player who came to UK as a walk-on but has since received a scholarship. Won't make much of an impact on the court but will push the freshmen to continue to work hard and help this team in the leadership department. Has been around for it all. A National Title and a 1st round NIT loss.

Tomorrow we will take a look at the forwards for your University of Kentucky basketball team. Stay tuned until next time BBN.
